Können Designer helfen

Wenn Designer schon nicht helfen können, Menschen vor falschen Kapitälchen zu bewahren (siehe Kopp), dann können sie durch gutes Design helfen Not zu lindern. Wo? Zwei Projekte zeigen es: BUILDING LETTERS und A Book Designed to Help  (dgv)

Das Projekt BUILDING LETTERS wurde zum ersten mal 2003 ins Leben gerufen. Typedesigner stellen kostenlos ihre Arbeit zur Verfügung. Der Verkauf der Fonts fließt direkt in Hilfsaktionen. Zwei Waisenhäuser wurden bisher errichtet (Kyabira Children´s Centre in Jinga/Uganda und das Likoni AIDS Waisenhaus in Mombasa/Kenya). Mit den Spenden aus dem INDIA Projekt 2004 sollen in Indien und Rwanda weitere Häuser errichtet werden.

Auf der 2004 CD befinden sich Schriften von Nicol Hensel/fontkitchen.com, Donald Beekman/dbxl.nl, Australian Type Foundary/atf.com.au, Simon Schmidt/close.nu, Rian Huges/devicesfonts.co.uk, max kisman/hollandfonts.com, Jim Richardson/unionfonts.com, Dave Lucsome/fontmonster.org, Harsh Patel/harshpatel.com, Stefan Hattenbach/psyops.com, Jacob Fischer/pizzadude.dk, Alejandro Paul/sudtipos.com.ar, Ian Swift/swifty.co.uk.
Dazu gibt es ein Heftechen mit Texten von Neville Brody, Jim Richardson, Juriaan Kamp u.v.a.
Ich habe eine Ausgabe gekauft. Kein Wunderwerk. Aber "nice to have" und "nice to know, why you bought it!"

A Book Designed to Help
A team from the design agency iLovedust in the UK dreamt up the idea of producing a book of graphic design/art/illustration to raise money to help charities deal with the tsunami crisis in Asia. Immediately after they started communicating the project, iLovedust began receiving an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from designers and partners who wanted to support the project. Die Gestalten Verlag (dgv) will publish the book and distribute it through our established global network of sales representatives and booksellers. It will be a lavish though affordable hardcover. In addition to handling international distribution, dgv will also support the editorial process to ensure that, in addition to being for a good cause, the book will also be a “must have” for its target audience worldwide.
