Anne Tallentire: As happens

As happens is an exhibition by Anne Tallentire held at Hollybush Gardens in 2020. The exhibition builds on an ongoing engagement with precariousness and contingency in relation to social spaces, articulated in works that dismantle, re-order, and re-situate everyday materials and systems tied to specific locations or situations.

The booklet captures two conversations between Anne and directors Lisa Panting & Malin Ståhl. Presenting each in parallel, divided between a graduating line and blended together with a jarring colour shift from strong red to bright orange. A bound jacket hides a full-bleed installation image within two horizontal flaps, giving the booklet a sculptural quality.

Colour Factory

“Colour Factory”: How animals get their colours and patterns…
Illustration from the picture book “Als die Schweine ins Weltall flogen” (“When the Pigs flew into Space”, Publisher: Mixtvision Verlag, Munich.
It is an illustration for a picture book without text: The brief was to create vividly colorful scenes (so called „storytelling pictures“) for 12 everyday-words such as Light, Car, Body, Colour etc. Each spread is teeming with crazy fun motives and artistic ideas. This colourful, imaginary and funny picture book invites children and parents to immerse themselves in the pictures, let their minds wander, to develop their own stories.

The joy of sex

In many cases, sex is still taboo, and something that isn’t talked about freely and openly. Despite it being one of the oldest acts of the time, as a global society, we still aren’t very comfortable talking honestly about it. So, we want to get talking about sex – we want to be part of the discussion, creating educational content to normalize and provide support around the discussion of sex – both online and offline. We will delve into those touchy subjects we normally shy away from; from stigmas to sexuality, fantasies to fetishes, consent to chlamydia – we want to get ourselves, and our daters, comfortable talking about sex.

SUN

This poster is a tribute to the sun as well as the color spectrum and chaotic beauty. Color and light are represented here in a personal way in an infinitely large (or small) space. This poster is realized by programming with the p5.js software by decomposing colored frames.

YES, BUT NOT NOW

Visual identity for our digital platform to create a willingness to deal with the “taboo topic” organ donation in Germany.

In which controversies do we prefer to ignore rather than giving attention? Today’s civil society is flooded with issues that are relevant to everyone’s life, but are often successfully suppressed – one of them is the topic organ donation. Distant, uncomfortable, even frightening to some people and full of prejudice – there never seems to be the right moment to listen what people have to say about this topic.

Bogged Down in Cementics

The poster combines political satire with promotion for architecture critique. It was published in 2020, when the media was criticising UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, for confusing semantics regarding the pandemic. It was created for an online discussion about architecture at the Uroboros Festival.

Buttergemüse

As part of my bachelor’s thesis, I created 27 posters. The topics were given by friends and were drawn randomly every day. This poster deals with the term “Buttergemüse” German for buttered vegetables. Inspired by the dish, I designed a small-scale and colorful poster that depicts all the different ingredients and put them together like a mosaic.

Visual Rhythm Generator

fractal 01 , fractal 02

fractals are works based on repetition of one single picture.
The basic single pic was realized with a sx70 camera and sx70 Polaroid film dedicated to skyscrapers. The starting pic it’s then repeated in order to create a new final pattern, a kind of psychedelic texture.

La Consentida

I based this composition on the esthetics of the “chivas”, a rural form of transportation that represent the colombian idiosyncarsy with a beautiful and picturesque combination of color and forms. The “chivas” were declared cultural patrimony in 2008 and are a symbol of the emblematic floklore that I wanted to transmit in this poster.

FORKA Project

The FORKA Project is a platform that includes various creative activities that develop innovative approaches to research of the form, both in its formal form, and in the sense of its abstract expression, perception and understanding of the sensual, emotional, material and mental aspect.
According to various types of creativity and activities, the motto THE MORE IS MORE, THEN LESS, is an important source for creative solutions.
The result was the mixing of different design genres, which would show the basic idea of a new approach in design dedicated to very young artists.

Asap Pilar The Fluid Identity Edition

Twice a year the centre organises Pilar Asap: a multidisciplinary festival of exhibitions, performances, lectures and workshops. A selection of young artists and musicians that Pilar believes should be on everyone’s radar takes centre stage. As far as communication about the festival is concerned, designers Corbin Mahieu and Lennart Van den Bossche went in search of a typography that embodies the different worlds of Pilar: the historical force and age-old generations of the university on the one hand and the rebellious, punky youngsters of Pilar on the other. The font Bill from 1950 by the artist Max Bill (1908-1994) encompasses both elements.

ETERNAL ERROR

The work move consciously at borders of the photographic image.
They are lab experiments, developed from moments where light or chemical
process of development dominated the depicted. Concentrating on the visibility of the image often leaves the process of visualization too short, ignoring the production process in favor of what you see in a photo.

The work places these questions at the limits of visibility, at the borders between
the intentional and the unintentional. It switches perspectives, manipulate pieces
to let the material compete against the sign: the view as a gateway for inevitabilities
of all kinds.

Obras: Celia Álvarez Muñoz

Celia Álvarez Muñoz is a conceptual multimedia artist, recognized internationally for her diverse and multifaceted body of work including artist books, photography, painting, written text, installation, and public art. She often used the Cibachrome printing process to produce oversized photographs of staged objects and sculpture. This catalog was created with Art League Houston in commemoration of their 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award in the Visual Arts. For the cover, we collaboratively chose this colorful gas mask feathered assemblage on a hot pink background, a perfect nod to the strife of quarantine life and how we seek identity and self-expression under the toughest of circumstances.

Müller/Schüßler is an artist duo working together since 2015. Throughout plain-air-painting-trips across Europe, our collaborative work concerns different appearances of landscape. We are driven by all things landscape and nature has to offer for us – we are stunned by form and color, dazzled by light and atmosphere of a flashy scenery. Mostly, we work on site, some works are a product of simultaneous work others solo. We’re into painting on canvas, drawing on paper or even doing clay models of the scenery.

04

This piece is part of a collection in which I explore the contrast and tension between a subject and its environment, the abstract and complex, nature and geometric shapes.
