Nikari

When we travelled to Helsinki last summer to discover the design scene there, we were flooded with the abundance of good design. That’s why in the upcoming Slanted issue #29—Helsinki, which will focus on graphic design, illustration and type design, we will also take a look at Finnish product design that is innovative, practical, modern and incredibly well-designed. We would also like to introduce a few companies online, such as Nikari, which was founded in 1967 by Kari Virtanen.

Nikari Oy is a manufacturer of sustainable design products made of wood. The design of Nikari furniture is deeply rooted in Nordic traditions and is characterised by an ambitious and contemporary approach. It respects the essence of wood and is restrained and simple.

Nikari collaborates with international designers and continues to develop its award-winning collections. The mixture of love for wood, contemporary design and high quality creates new ways for a sustainable future.

Nikari’s headquarters, studio and workshop are powered exclusively by renewable energy from a hydroelectric power plant located right next to the buildings. One of Nikari’s customers is the SEMINAR collection.
