Please tell us something about yourself – why starting a new type foundry?
I have been designing typefaces for other foundries for a long time. That has been great, but the typefaces that I am working on right now feel very personal. A few years ago I realized that I didn't want to let these go. I wanted to control how they were marketed and, most importantly, I wanted to talk to the designers who would be using the fonts. The only way that I could do that would be to start a new foundry. It took me longer to get everything started than I had anticipated, but it is finally done!
What is special about your typefaces?
I was a graphic designer for many years and my typefaces grow out of that experience. As a graphic designer, I was frustrated by typefaces that looked nice but didn't really work for reason or another. So, I design my typefaces to be very hard workers and I spend a lot of time thinking about how to make them the best tools that they can be.
How many typefaces are online right now?
I have four families available right now: Balto, a workhorse sans serif, Torque, an athletic sans serif, Timonium, a high-contrast display sans serif, and Ohm, a neon family.
Are you working on new designs right now? What will be next?
I always have a few things on the drawing board in various states of completion. Next is … I’m not sure yet. I’ll let you know as soon as I have it figured out!
