Issue 003—all that is new is well-forgotten old

Author: Linus Haug

STUCK magazine, known for its exploration of art and culture, will release its third print edition centered on the theme of nostalgia in art on July 31st, 2024. Since its inception, STUCK Magazine has collaborated with diverse artists to delve into their creative processes, challenges, and successes, aiming to inspire readers to overcome creative blocks.

The upcoming issue titled “all that is new is well-forgotten old” will be available nationally and internationally by the end of July 2024. It explores how looking to the past inspires artists and influences their creative processes. The magazine showcases a variety of artistic forms from different cultural perspectives. Contributors include Tomohiro Kono, a Japanese hair and wig artist, digital artist and video game hacker Hikikomori, and Tim Jacobus, renowned for illustrating the GooseBumps series covers.

Marius Thielmann, STUCK Magazine’s editor in chief, highlighted the issue's integration of concept into design, drawing inspiration from old Playstation and Playboy magazines of the 80s and 90s for its layout, graphic design, paper quality, and additional features like a sticker pack and fold-out pages. This blend of nostalgia with progressive editorial and creative direction enhances the magazine’s appeal.

The edition features eight artists through in-depth interviews, articles, analyses, and portraits across its 100 pages. STUCK Magazine examines personal and generational meanings of nostalgia, its conscious and unconscious incorporation in art, and its elusive signs. An accompanying essay guides readers through the magazine towards an open conclusion. Additionally, interdisciplinary artists have contributed non-commercial advertisements, completing the publication between two selectable covers.
